CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a programme established by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) in 1973/1974 to bridge the gap between theoretical and practical aspect of learning in our tertiary institution in Nigeria.
Having studies the impact of practical eduction in the educational sector of the developed country; the existence of this programme since 1976 in Nigeria is to development the student on tehir practical aspect learning expose them to various working techniques in the industrial and also help them to known the various ways of handling equipments tools and machineries.
The programme was established with various coordinating agencies in respective of each tertiary institution in the country. These agencies:-
NUC – for university
NBTC – for Polytechnics
NCCE – For colleges of education
1.1 BACKGROUND
In the earlier stage of science and technology education in nigeria student here graduating from their respective institution without and technical knowledge or working experience.
It was in the view that students undergoing science and technology related institution in the view of widening tehir horixon so as to enable them have technical knowdledg being graduating from their various institution the Student Industrial Working Experience Scheme (SIWES).
The major background behind the embarkment of student is SIWES was to expose them to the industrial environment and enable them to develop occupational competences so that they can readily contribute their quote to National Economical Technological.
1.2 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
To prepare studuent for the future profession
To orientate educate and expose student practically in their various field of SIWES
