1.0 INTRODUCTION OF SIWES
For many years industrial and commercial activities existed however, due to educational, awareness and improvement in both education and population, government decided to establish industrial training fund (I.T.F).
The industrial training fund was established by decree of 8th October, 1970 with the aim of promotion and encouraging the acquisition of skills in industry and commerce with a view of generating a pool of indigenous training manpower sufficiently to meet the need of economy. This fund subsequently introduced training, which is known as student industrial work experience scheme (SIWES).
1.1 AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF SIWES
This program SIWES is training student in practical aspect of what has been taught theoretically but put to practical. The human resource development professional are now recognized as prime contributors to organizational effectiveness and productively in industry and of course in the state. However, all effort focused on the central goals of development human potential in every aspect of life.
1.2 HISTORY 0F SIWES
SIWES was first of the three manpower training and development scheme. The federal military government created agencies during the second national development plan period (1970-19740) and under NBTE now.
1.3 PURPOSE OF SIWES
It brings learners from theoretical aspect and exposed him or her to the practical of learning
It broadens the scope of learning with regards to field of learning.
It market in student to be skillful as a result of more exposure to part that were not understood theoretically.
It opens the door of theory and practical for student to be creative.
It makes the student to be competent and interested in the course of study.
1.4 THE ORGANISATION
Kaduna state ministry of works and transport is a state government organization that takes charge of the maintenance in the state and they usually get connected to some construction companies that have the facilities that are needed to carry out any repairs within the state: roads, maintenance of government house and offices for example.
