ABSTRACT
Administration and management is the primary objective of this work. It involves the medium whereby objects management, users administration, document management, software deployment and application deployment are resolved.
Firstly, Microsoft SharePoint as a back-end software, enables people to connect to it and utilize its lucrative uses. It is an application platform that provides central management of information in an organization. It resolves the obsolete way of documentation of records and files in a company.
It enhances collaborative activities through the creation of SharePoint sites. SharePoint can offer more than a million site in one top level site or site collection. Documents can be stored, found, updated, managed, documented, archived and restored in accordance with the governing policies.
Consequently, Active Directory Domain Services manages all the network machines, users, and resources. It serves as a database that keeps tracks of information in the network. Without Active Directory, users cannot log on to the domain. It authenticates users’ passwordand determines if the user is a system administrator or a normal user.
It organizes the elements of a network such as users and computers into a hierarchical containment. Security is integrated in Active Directory through logon authentication, controls authorization and events auditing.
System Center Configuration Manager provides a management platform that assists users to efficiently manage their datacenters and client devices via software distribution, operating systems deployment and hardware and software inventory. It boosts the operations Information Technology (IT) department and streamlines their activities.System Center Configuration Manager heightens operations improvement with low expenses.
CHAPTER ONE
1.1 HISTORY OF SIWES
Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) was established by Industrial Training Fund (ITF) in 1973 to solve the problem of lack of adequate practical skills preparatory for employment in industries by Nigerian graduates of tertiary institutions. SIWES was introduced by the Federal Government of Nigeria to bridge the gap between theory and practice among products of our tertiary Institutions.
Due to insufficient funding of this program, and the numerous increase of student enrolment in higher institution of learning, ITF withdrew from the scheme in 1978. The Federal Government handed it over to National University Commission (NUC) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). In 1979, the colleges of Education were not part of the scheme and later in 1984, the Federal Government reverted back to the Industrial Training Fund which took over the scheme in 1985 with funding provided by the Federal Government.
The Scheme exposes students to industry based skills necessary for a smooth transition from the classroom to the world of work. It affords students of tertiary institutions the opportunity of being familiarized and exposed to the needed experience in handling machinery and equipment which are usually not available in the educational institutions.
Participation in SIWES has become a necessary pre-condition for the award of Diploma and Degree certificates in specific disciplines in most institutions of higher learning in the country, in accordance with the education policy of government.
Operators – The ITF, the coordinating agencies (NUC, NCCE, NBTE), employers of labor and the institutions.
Beneficiaries – Undergraduate students of the following: Agriculture, Engineering, Technology, Environmental, Science, Education, Medical Science and Pure and Applied Sciences.
Duration – Four months for Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, and Six months for the Universities.
Funding: The Federal Government of Nigeria.
1.2 OBJECTIVES OF SIWES
SIWES is a key factor required to inject and engender industrialization and economic development in our nation through the induction of scientific and technological skills on candidates. It prepares students for the real world work they will meet after leaving school. With the proper implementation of SIWES, technological know-how will be promoted for the advancement of our country.
It enhances the employer’s involvement in the educational processes. SIWES provides placements in industries for students of higher institutions of learning approved by relevant regulating authority to acquire work experience and skills relevant to their course of study. With the acquisition of theoretical aspects of learning, SIWES exposes students to the handling of equipment and machinery in the industry world. In fact, it provide panacea to the outstanding bridge between the theory and practice.
