Computer is the live wire that ensures an organisation existence in today competitive work. It ensures an effective management of information in the interest of information technology.
Welcome to an Industrial Training Report (ITR) that ushers you into an exciting world of Internet and Protocols such as Open system Interconnect, The Department of Defence Model, Internet Protocol Address, Transmission Control Protocols.
In my six month of SIWES I was opportune to work in Networking Department of HIIT, I learnt about various types of networks, networking protocols and network cables, these tools can be used in Network troubleshooting and also creating some security measure while developing a network. This report provides some of the features that are important to students and anyone that has interest in networking field. These features are discussed in details as:
Management Structure: The survival of contemporary businesses of today is hinged on the structure and quality of her management, her technological know-how, communications capabilities, market power, and compliance strategy.
HANDS-ON INSTITUTE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY has grown to a great height today because of her ability to understand these survival concepts. Thus, Chapter 1 presents an overview of the company, her services, organizational structure.
OSI MODEL. How will the world look like when intercommunication between devices is only possible when the device are from same vendors, that is HP computer will only communicate will HP computers, Dell will only communicate will Dell computers. Thus, Chapter 2, Open System Interconnect Model provides a technical report on various Protocols used by system vendors to allow intercommunication between devices from different vendors.
TCP/IP. TCP/IP is discuss, Just as OSI Model is applied between systems, The DOD m]pplied between networking devices, the DOD model is also discuss in Chapter 3.
CABLING: Just as electric wire is used to transfer current from one place to another, a network cable is used to transfer data in form of signal for one network device to another, in chapter four, most common network cable is discuss.
Problems Encountered, Recommendations and Conclusion The Student Industrial Training Scheme has contributed greatly in imparting practical know – how and ethical standards in me. This chapter illustrates some of the problems I encountered during my course of tutelage, proposed recommendations and conclusion.

The Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a Skills acquisition
Program designed to expose and prepare students of Universities, Polytechnics/Colleges of Technology, Agriculture and Education for the Industrial work situation they are likely to meet after graduation. The scheme also affords students the opportunity of familiarizing and exposing themselves to the needed experience in handling equipment and machinery that are usually not available in their Institutions.
Before the establishment of the scheme, there was a growing concern among our Industrialists that graduate of our institutions of higher learning lacked adequate practical background studies preparatory for employment in Industries. Thus, the employers were of the opinion that the theoretical education going on in higher institutions was not responsive to the needs of the employers of labour.
It is against this background that the rationales for initiating and designing the scheme by the Fund during its formative years – 1973/74 was introduced to acquaint students with the skills of handling employers’ equipment and machinery, and also have a grasp of business ethics, cultures, professionalism and possible career prospects.
The ITF solely funded the scheme during its formative years. But as the financial involvement became unbearable to the Fund, it withdrew from the Scheme in 1978.
The Federal Government handed over the scheme in 1979 to both the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
The Federal Government in November 1984 revert the management and implementation of the SIWES programmed to ITF and it was effectively taken over by the Industrial Training Fund in July 1985 with the funding being solely borne by the Federal Government.
