1.0 PREAMBLE
Student industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) is a programmed that was established in 1973 by the federal government of Nigeria with the directive that every student in higher institutions of learning should go through in order to solve the problem of lack of adequate practical skills preparatory for employment in industries by Nigerian graduates of tertiary institution.
The scheme exposes students to work method and techniques of handling equipments and machine that may not be available in their institution of learning. hence student`s participation in the SIWES programmed has become a necessity and a pre-requisite for the award of respective certificate for the institutional programmed (diploma certificate in federal polytechnic Kaduna).
1.1 Definition of SIWES
This is defined as an acronym for student industrial work experience scheme. It is acceptable skill training programmed that was introduced in 1973 which forms part of the graduation requirement standard approved in various programmed for almost all Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Aims
SIWES is aimed at exposing student to machines and equipment professional work methods and ways of save guiding the work area and workers in industrial and other organizations. The schemes consist of three parts involving the student’s tertiary institution and industry (Employers).
Objective of SIWES
1. The objectives of the student industrial work experience scheme are to:
Prepare students for the work situation they are likely to meet after graduation.
2. To provides an avenue for students in Nigerian tertiary institutions to acquire the industrial skills and experience needed in their course of study.
3. To expose students to work methods and techniques of handling equipments and machinery that may not be available in their tertiary institutions.
4. To provide students with additional knowledge and sometimes creating opportunity for self reliance through the practical knowledge acquired

Importance of SIWES
1. It exposes students to more practical work methods and techniques.
2. It prepares students for the labor market after graduation etc
Brief History of Kaduna State Water Board, Kaduna South Water Works (KSWB).
Kaduna state water board (KSWB), has its head office at Obasanjo house located at Yakubu Gowon way P.M.B 2133 Kaduna, Kaduna state. There are two water treatment plant within Kaduna town which includes; Kaduna south plant and Kaduna north plant.
Kaduna south water works is the first and oldest with the capacity of 27 million litres per day and the source of its raw water is river Kaduna. Kaduna south water works was commissioned in the year 1929. It supplies water to Barnawa, Kakuri and Ugwan Mu`azu respectively.
Functions of Kaduna State Water Board Are As Follows
1. Water supply and sanitation in Nigeria
2. Production of quality water and its distribution to the people of Kaduna state.
3. Collection of rates for water consumed by customers
4. Production of good drinking water at a reasonable cost with respect to capital operation and maintenance etc.
Various Department In The Plant
1. Administrative department: this department is charge with the responsibilities of policy and implementation.
2. Mechanical department: this department is charge with the responsibilities of equipments installations and maintenance.
3. Electrical department: this department is charge with the responsibilities of all section involve with electrical works.
