ABSTRACT

This project titled “Statistical Analysis on live birth With Respect to Mothers Age Group (a case study of Barau Dikko hospital from 2006-2015) Kaduna. The data used for this project work was a secondary data from the record office BarauDikko hospital.

The aim and objectives is to determine if the age group of mothers is independent of years, to determine the significance difference in the age group of mothers from 15 to 40+ with regards to their fertility and also to establishe a linear trend pattern to the live birth by the childbearing age women within the years. The statistical tools used in the analysis areChi-Square Test of Independent, the Kruskal-Wallis Test and the Time Series Analysis. The chi-square test of independence revealed that the age group of mothers is not independent of years. Indicating that mothers age group depends on years.

The kruskal-wallis test revealed that there is significant difference in the age group of mothers with regards there fertility. Indicating that the rate at which children are giving birth in each age group varies.Using the Time series analysis it was discovered that from the fitted linear model , it is observed that the number of live birth in the based year 2006 will be 1700 and about -38 live birth is found yearly i.e. the number of live birthon the average annually is -38 (Yt = 1700.2 – 38.4×t).

Hence the researcher recommend that government should revitalize the economy for better living in every household and Nigerian family, in order to alleviate poverty and suffering that are so prevalent in every Nigerian home, so that mothers in the family can also be able to afford a well standard and bettered treatments, drugs and carrying before during and after birth or pregnancy.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0 INTRODUCTION

The importance of statistics to the world can never be overemphasized as over time, governments have used statistical analyst to determine the economic state of the country as well as its population which naturally increase or decrease due to fertility.

Fertility is the natural capability to produce offspring. Lack of fertility is infertility but for the sake of this paper we are going to dwell more on fertility. As a measure, fertility rate is the number of offspring born per mating pair, individual or population.

Over time, the level of fertility varies broadly by country and culture, social and economic condition as well as by individual characteristics such as age. Generally, more industrialized and economically developed societies have lower fertility than the less developed societies.

Also within countries generally more educated group with higher income have lower fertility than less educated group with lower income. However, the relationship of age to fertility illustrates the complex interplay of behavioural and biological determinant of fertility as observed in the demographic level.

Both males and females become fertile in their teens following puberty. For girls, the beginning of their reproductive years is marked by the onset of ovulation and menstruation. It is commonly understood that after menopause women are no longer able to become pregnant.

Generally, reproductive potential decreases as women get older and fertility can be expected to end 5 to 10 years before menopause. In today’s society, age-related infertility is becoming more common because, for a variety of reasons, many women wait until their 30s to begin their families.

Even though women today are healthier and taking better care of themselves than ever before, improved health in later life does not offset the natural age-related decline in fertility. It is important to understand that fertility declines as a woman ages due to the normal agerelated decrease in the number of eggs that remain in theirovaries. This decline may take place much sooner than most women expect.
