The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has granted full accreditation to the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, to produce professional medical doctors. The approval was granted after the council’s visit to the institution in 2022 to assess the available resources for training MBBS students, according to a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Temitope Oluwatayo.
Dr. Tajudeen Sanusi, the Registrar of MDCN, conveyed the council’s provisional approval in a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi. The accreditation is renewable every five years, subject to continued evidence of the progressive development of the MBBS programme.

Final year students of the MBBS programme at UNIMED can now write their final professional examination and be inducted into the medical council with this development. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, has stated that the institution’s focus is not just to succeed in accreditation processes but also to be an institution grounded in international best practices and a hub of excellence in medical education and research that contributes to improved health and well-being both nationally and globally.
