This project exercises the role of voluntary organizations in community development in Nigeria. A case study of Kabba/Bunu local government Area of Kogi State. In the study, the researcher made a copious attempt to find out the problems and prospects of this organization in their quest for community development, how does the societies benefit from their activities, economically, socially, and educationally.
The role of voluntary organization in community development specified objectives such as to bring the local communities that technical assistance available from outside the locality to enhance community welfare. Some assumptions of voluntary organizations to the development activities e.g. to promotes the spirit of community development activities within the local government, voluntary organizations foster unity among the various groups, sexes and religious within the local community.
Method of Data collections were employed through Questionnaire, interview, observation and document. Data presentation for analysis shows its activities of the people to self-help project, areas of cooperation between the government and the people.
Recommendation shows some problem areas that need to be addressed the first, problem area relates to our relating development to physical improvements around us alone. The kind of community development project which are been initiated and executed by voluntary organizations revolves round physical projects such as road construction, bridges, culverts, schools, hospital, some of these may not be necessarily represent the pressing or felt needs of the rural people. In conclusion the research made suggestion on how voluntary organizations could be used as a tool for National development.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
Voluntary organizations are a critical part of civil society, and play important roles in the process of development worldwide. Indeed these organizations and their development activities predate the global associational revolution of the resent past two decades as well as the voluntary organization decade in development discusses.
According to Abubakar G.k (2006). A well managed voluntary organization is one of the most effective forms of corporate organization for local communities very often voluntary organization efforts offer the best possible solution to a problem affecting a group of people or a whole community. The role played by voluntary organization can not be over emphasized.
The voluntary organizations have contributed immensely in the development of rural communities basically for the social welfare of the community. It is a known fact that government alone can not bear the task of developing local communities.
There are so many isolated communities which the government can not reach in providing infrastructure and facilities to make living enjoyable to the people of such local communities. For this reason the voluntary organization have now come into play to ensure that such infrastructure and facilities are made available to these communities.
