1.0 Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
According to aboagyewaa and Apreku (2012) clothing, food and shelter have been recognized as the most basic necessities of people all over the world. Man cannot live without putting on garment. Aboagyewaa and Apreku 2012. Further affirmed that the clothing people use for special occasions, weddings, naming ceremonies, funerals rites, festivals and all other formal or evening occasions have become part of us in our memories.
Women’s evening formal wears are occasion wear worn by women for the purposes of ceremonies such as social event, coronations, graduation, weddings, having ceremonies sporting events, parade ceremonies, cocktail party, dinner party national and state formal ceremonies etc. these category of clothing apart from protective reasons against weather conditions are also worn for decorative and modesty purposes.
The desire for modesty differ from culture to culture and what is acceptable decent, properness or dress code. In general the kind of clothing that people wear are prescribed as decent or appropriate for particular occasions by the cultural set up, so also is the desire for adornment or decoration, clothing is also a source of adornment and decoration styles and decorations changes form different occasions and ceremonies are reflective of information about culture, tradition, lifestyles and personality.
The need to clothes for modesty and adornment is the sole bases of the clothing industry. Clothes nee to fit well and look attractive hence the need to acquire them.
1.2 Statement Of The Problem
Acquiring items of clothing and particularly women’s evening wear in Nigeria today is very impacting, this is as a result of dwindling economic recession the Nigerian state is facing today.
The economic realities are impacting in the following ways rising food clothing and shelter prices companies and industries shutting down operations. Downsizing work force, people losing jobs, no guarantee of regular salaries, school fees and other expenses continued to increase like clock work.
Mindful of all these bitting economic downturn and hardship, this writer have chosen to improve and use cheap and inexpensive printed cotton fabrics for women’s evening wear.
The writer is equally mindful of the current government campaign “produce made in Niger products” and “buy made in Nigeria products” been promoted by the APC led federal government of Nigeria, hence the reason for this project.
It is the writer’s intention to improve inexpensive printed cotton fabrics to design and produce (4) no women’s evening wears for the Nigerian and African women of today age 20-45years old, upward mobile, career women, power dresser and a woman of style and sophistication.
1.4 Aims And Objectives Of The Study
To improve and enhance inexpensive printed cotton fabrics
To use the resultant fabrics to design and produce 4 no women’s evening wears
To encourage production of made-in-Nigeria fashion goods with improved standard
To encourage buying of made-in-Nigeria fashion goods with adequate and appropriate promotion.
To encourage the diversification of the Nigeria economy from oil based and importation based economy to manufacturing.
To compete favourable with foreign 2 made evening wears goods in terms presentation, quality, workmanship, finishing and price.
1.5 Research Question
What effect dose the use of wrong fabric type have on the production of women’s evening wears.
Are there possibilities of producing better evening wears with improved fabric meet market standard
Will the adaptation of improved printed fabric change the wrong mentality of Nigerians about inferiority of locally produced garment?
Will the use of improved printed fabric for the production of evening wears be fashionable than other design?
1.6 Significant Of The Study
The study will contribute to the body of existing knowledge on fabric decoration, women’s evening wear production, fashion and fashion design in general.
The study will also contribute to existing body or knowledge on already employment opportunities, adornment and activity fulfillment shear more light or being reflective on material and cultural advancement.
1.7 Scope Of The Study
The study is limited to using improved inexpensive printed cotton fabric for the design and production of women’s evening wear.
