CHAPTER TWO
Ummi travels back in time to twenty years ago as she remembers her time in college, including getting married before she started her registration. Ummi talks about her observations on students’ carefree lifestyles, dress codes, and the differences between students and professors.
She tells the story of how her friend Salma made herself look bad by criticizing a university employee, not realizing that he was the instructor in charge of registration. Ummi expresses her unease with the HOD’s approaches to her, which at first she took to be offensive actions.
She then found out that her husband, who played a key role in getting her in, was close friends with the HOD. Ummi felt horrible about her previous presumptions and asked her husband to apologize to Dr. Samuel Johnson.
CHAPTER THREE
Ummi relates Talle’s story in this chapter; Talle is also referred to as “the quiet one.” Talle’s birth causes his mother to die, therefore he grows up with a mute personality.
He withdraws much more once his father and stepmother pass away. Talle, who is regarded as a good man in his village, kidnaps a boy for ransom with his friend Zaki because he needs money.
Talle’s grocery requests double in bulk, revealing their plot, and he is eventually arrested and given a hard-work sentence of years in jail.
Ummi used Talle’s tale as a warning to her kids, especially her son Omar, who was just accepted to college. The chapter examines Talle’s acts’ repercussions and the effects of his introverted nature of life.

CHAPTER FOUR
Salma’s conceit and haughtiness are evident in this chapter as she rejects Dr. Debo, her level coordinator, when he makes overtures.
She moves into a room with three other females after completing her registration, and while she doesn’t like them at first, she ultimately comes to like them.
Later, Salma agrees to take a ride with Habib and his driver, Labaran, and schemes to turn down Habib’s offer in order to rise in social standing.
Disciplined educator Dr. Dabo, meanwhile, expressed regret for approaching Salma and promised never to lower his guard again.
On her way back to university, Salma also runs into Habib and Labaran, giving them a fake name and number.
CHAPTER FIVE
In this chapter, Salma finds herself in a difficult situation when she gives Habib the incorrect number, causing him to call Tomiwa instead.
When Tomiwa and Habib go on a date, she is shocked when he gives her and her roommates presents and cash. Salma shows envy at first, but with her roommates’ support, she eventually calms down.
It is revealed that Habib and his driver, Labaran, were boyhood friends and that Labaran backs Habib’s political endeavors.
The chapter also describes Salma’s and her roommates’ academic development as they get ready for their General Studies exam.
CHAPTER SIX
Salma finds moral philosophy difficult, so she chooses to duplicate answers from a note Kola gave her in order to cheat on the exam.
Kola finally gives Salma the code answers to the first two questions, in spite of his early resistance.
After thirty minutes of writing nothing, Salma’s invigilator observes her sudden motivation to write, which leads to the discovery of her cheating.
Salma is forced to sign the Examination Malpractice (EMAL) form, and when she does, Kola is also expelled for her accusations.

CHAPTER SEVEN
Salma, who is having trouble in school, asks her friend Habib, a politician, for assistance in trying to get the Examination and Ethics Committee (EMEC) to take her case.
Salma rejects Habib’s initial suggestion to involve Dr. Debo and advises buying off the committee instead. Salma is hesitant because of her relationship with Labaran, but Habib offers to give her money to bribe the EMEC chairman.
After a while, Salma takes Habib’s money and gives it to Dr. Kabir, whom she takes to be the head of the EMEC.
She subsequently finds out, though, that Dr. Kabir is not a committee member and is really an impostor.
CHAPTER EIGHT
This chapter reveals that Mohammed Kabir, the laboratory technologist, goes by “Doctor” as well because of a moniker he picked up in high school.
Kabir is a gregarious person who has won the respect of numerous individuals at the institution where he works. After a gambler deceived Salma, Labaran asks Zaki for assistance in getting the money back.
Kabir, who took the money from him after winning it from Salma, is caught up by Zaki. The history of Zaki’s role in the kidnapping of Alhaji Adamu’s son is also clarified in this chapter.
Honorable Habib gave Zaki the order to execute the kidnapping, but Talle, an untrained villager, caused a bungled attempt.
CHAPTER NINE
Ummi shares a tale about Salim’s interactions with social media and cellphones in this chapter.
Unaware that the meeting he arranges with Natasha, a girl he met online, is a trap planned by kidnappers and thieves, he goes ahead and makes the arrangement. Salim manages to get away thanks to heavenly help.
Later, Salim asks Lawal to go with him to a meeting he has with another female he met on social media. When Lawal says no, Salim is let down to see that the girl is not as attractive as he had assumed.
