BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The guest for economic development ensure overall improvement in individual well being of citizenĀ as been the pre occupationĀ of every nation. The process involvesĀ a number of approaches. One of these is the adoption of an industrializationĀ strategy at a pointĀ in time relevantĀ to the prevailing needs of development.
Developing countries are under much pressure in this regardĀ because of their general peculiar featuresĀ which among other include concentration of highĀ proportion growthĀ low level of savings, generalĀ poverty of various dimension, poor credit and marketingĀ facility etc (on wumere, 2000)
in fact many developing countries have attached high priority to the industrial sector in their development plansĀ possibly as a result ofĀ their attractionĀ to many development theoriesĀ that have tended toĀ see industrialization as the gateway to modernization Nigeria, like many of them had on gaining political independence, adopted Ā import substitution as her industrialization strategy.

Since the 1970s, therefore, developingĀ countries have been compelled, in the face of thus problems to look for alternative approaches to development. One of these approachesĀ has been the redirection o f efforts and encouragement of small and medium scale enterprises (SMES).
Since theĀ introduction. However, the role of smallĀ scale industries on the economicĀ developmentĀ of NigeriaĀ has help the economyĀ to improve to a maximum level unlike whenĀ Nigeria use to import all her need from the overseasĀ countries which of course made the economy worse that time (Oshagbemi, 2000).
The contributionĀ of SMES to the developmentĀ process are such that any countryĀ are such that any country can only ignore its own peril. Hence, there is need to evaluateĀ the impact of small scale business on economic development
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
DevelopmentĀ strategies in the past had favoured large scale concerns whichĀ had not yielded much desiredĀ not returnsĀ to their economic. The quest for economicĀ development to ensureĀ over all improvementĀ in individual well-beingĀ of citizensĀ then become the occupation of every nation, hence an attempt to incorporate the small and medium scaleĀ industries then become importantĀ with the incorporation, has thus been able to foster economic development in theĀ NigerianĀ own situation?
This become a problem which this study tries to profferĀ solution to, so as to evaluateĀ its importance on the economicĀ development of Nigeria.
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
TheĀ major objective of carrying outĀ this research is to evaluate small scale industry impact on the economic development of Nigeria.
I will also focus on the following areas
To identifyĀ constraints such as fund and managementĀ of SMES
To identify strategies that would be used in operation of MES in kwara state
To examine the economic potentialĀ of SMEs on gross domesticĀ products and creations
To establish the importance of SMES as an option ofĀ economicĀ developing recovery growthĀ in Nigeria.
To identify the role played in government towards the promotionĀ and developing of SMEs
To examine and identify the constraints such as fundingĀ and managingĀ of SMEs
Finally, theĀ researchĀ work will lay emphasis on theĀ various agenciesĀ established by government to promote small- scale industries in Nigeria.
1.4 SIGNIFICANT OF THE STUDY
The researchĀ work carried out on the evaluation of small scaleĀ business on the development of Nigeria is of significant important to the academic world in various institutions.
The study is also helpful toĀ small scale business enterprisesĀ as it would burden their knowledgeĀ efficiency and effectiveness in small scale business management.
1.5 SCOPE OF THE STUDY.
The researchĀ topic is so wide andĀ broad but inĀ order to make the study more easier in carrying out explicitly, we have based our researchĀ onĀ Sawo industry as our case study.
1.6Ā LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
in the process of carrying outĀ this research project, thereĀ were some problems being encountered such as unavailabilityĀ of fundĀ to reallyĀ carry out the unavailabilityĀ of fund to really carryoutĀ the researchĀ work so extensively on time.
Secondly, this was the problems of time constraintĀ which made it impossible to travel wide to obtain someĀ importantĀ documentĀ and informationĀ that could serve as useful guide on the topic and study.
Another problem encounteredĀ was the delay in administratingĀ the questionnaire. It took a relentless effort before I couldĀ get in touchĀ with some of the upperĀ managementĀ of the organization due toĀ securityĀ constraints.
1.7 ORGANIZATION OF THE STUDY
The research Ā project is grouped inĀ to five chapters. The firstĀ chapter comprises theĀ introduction, statement of problem, objective of the study, significance, scope, limitation, research methodology and organization of the study.
The second chapter comprises of the literatureĀ review chapter three contains theĀ researchĀ methodologyĀ while chapter fourĀ deals withĀ analysisĀ and presentationĀ of data and chapter five give the summary conclusion and policy recommendations.
