1.1 Background of the Subject Matter
For the average woman finding out that she is pregnant means that it is time to celebrate with her partner for the fruit of the womb.
Pregnancy is not a welcome occurrence for women who do not want to become pregnant for whatever reason, therefore the change that a pregnancy and baby birth imitates for un-expectant youths often triggers a whole lot of responses from the individual the family and the society at large.
Unplanned pregnancies is not without it attendant consequences and effects, as the number of children roaming the street uncared for seem to be on the increase, this may be as a result of unplanned pregnancies among youths.
The amount of girls and boys dropping out of school to work and carter for unplanned baby or juggling school work and caring for babies should be a thing of concern. Children born to unexpected parents are often not properly cares for, as they are often left in the care of friends, relatives or ground parents who may still have young children of their own to care for.
The psychological, social and economic effect of having an unplanned baby might be too hard for youth to handle. Having a child is something that requires planning and should be a well though-out decision and both parents have to bear the tremendous responsibility that rearing a child entails because bringing up a child is not a joke.
1.2 Objective of the Study
The objective of the study research are as follows:
1. to know the number of unplanned pregnancies among girls.
2. to find how many of these girls are educated and their level of literacy.
3. to know the family background of girls involved in unplanned pregnancies.
to find out if girl with unplanned pregnancies continued schooling after birth of the child.
1.3 Statement of the Problem
Girls seem to be ignorant about sex itself and it attendant complications thereby falling pray to the adverse effect consequences of unwanted pregnant. The society that we live in do not expose the girls to a deep knowledge of their sexuality, but they are exposed to numerous ways to experiment with their sexuality.
Thereby reap the consequences. The neglect and poor state of sex education has resulted in unwanted children on the streets, unplanned parenthood and other problem associated with unplanned pregnancy.
It is against this backdrop that this research seek to find ways and solution to unplanned or unwanted pregnancy among girl can be reduced to it barest minimum or eradicate of possible.
1.4 Research Questions
What percentage of girls are involved in unplanned pregnancies?
How educated are these involved in such act?
What are their family background in terms of education and wealth
Does this girl continue schooling after they gave birth?
1.5 Significance of the Study
The result of this project will help to shed more light on the problem of unwanted pregnancies among girls, it consequences and effects the projects will also proffer solution to the growing amount of children roaming the street uncared for as a result of unplanned pregnancies the research will also bring to light educational effect of unplanned pregnancies.
1.6 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The scope of the study is limited to Kaduna North Local Government area of Kaduna State Kawo to be precise because of time factor, and finance involved in carrying out the research work.
