Before now farm proceedings were lost and vanquished as a result of deficiencies in adequate machineries and equipments needed to transform or process farm outputs into finer granules due to the low level of technology as at then. As technology revolves machinery such as hammer milling machine which was invented to cater for that purpose. The invention of hammer mill pulverizer has brought about the processing and conversion of raw farm product, which makes them more dogged and rugged thereby increasing their lifespan. It is mainly incorporated for household and commercial uses and processing of livestock’s feeds.
This pulverizer machine comprises of seven major parts namely; the Hopper, Crushing chamber, the discharge outlet, Screen, Rotor, main‑stand and the engine sit. It is designed to be powered by 10HP petrol engine with variable speed driver. The machine is user-friendly and works on simple mechanism which enables it to be easily operated by an ordinary layman. The overall cost of the machine is moderate and economical and put to use where there is no supply of electricity.

CHAPTER ONE
1.1 INTRODUCTION
The motive behind the fabrication of pulverizer hammer mill is to crush and reduce compact farm produce into a finer particle. Hammer mill pulverizer is employed in crushing dry yam into powder, dry cassava tubes into cassava flour, dry maize into powder and so on. It is also used in crushing livestock feed such as dry bone to produce bone meal. The capacity of pulverizer mill varies among manufacturers. Generally, hammer mill pulverizers are made up of mild steel but in some cases where they are require for human food processing, they are made up of stainless material. Whichever of the hammer mill could be powered via electricity, petrol or diesel engines. The moderate capacity is between 3 to 5 horse power, depending on the size and overall output of the machine.
1.2 MODE OF OPERATION
The machine is put to run for some minute in order to achieve a reasonable balance in the rotation of the mechanism assemblies, after which the material is fed into it through the hopper in a gradual manner, whereas the material slides from the hopper into the crushing chamber where the actual size reduction takes place and thereafter in which the final material passes through the discharge outlet.
1.3 ADVANTAGES OF HAMMER MILL PULVERIZER
I. Durability:- This is the ability of the machine to exist longer without significant deterioration by resisting the effects of heavy users
II. Versatility:- This is the flexibility of the machine to occur in different phases to perform various dynamic tasks.
III. Simplicity of crushing:- It makes it very easy and simple to crush or grind any materials been fed into it
1.4 DISADVANTAGES OF HAMMER MILL PULVERIZER
I. High power consumption: – It requires high power supply before it can be able crush any material. i.e. high power supply is required for its initializatio
II. High initial cost: – Hammer mill pulverizer is too expensive to afford due to the enhanced and galvanized mechanical components and parts employed in its construction.
1.5 AIM AND OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The aim and objective of this project work is to design a hammer mill pulverizer that will be easy to operate, less stressful in operation and at a relatively low cost, which can be affordable to the general public.
This project is aimed at improving the efficiency of the available pulverizers and to make it more compacted and portable for easy transportation.
1.6 LITERATURE REVIEW OF HAMMER MILL PULVERIZER
James Ford Bell is rightly viewed as the founder of general pulverizer mill, but if not for a lone dissenter on the board of Washburn Crush Company in 1928, general mill may never have come to being
Washburn Crosby had accepted the purchase offer, and the contract was signed when the purchasing company abruptly withdrew, knowing that a dramatic moment was at hand. Bell instead went across the street to New York investment of milling companies.
By June 1928, Bell had aligned other four milling companies to merge into the new general pulverizer mill. Red star milling company, kalispel four milling company, rock milling company and rocket mountain Elevator Company join the Washburn Crosby Company to create one of the largest milling company in the world.
Crushing is the means of transferring a force amplified by mechanical advantage through a material made of molecules that bond together more strongly and resist deformation more than those in the material being crushed to. There are many types of pulverizer mill e.g. coal pulverizer mill, hammer mill, ball tube mill, vertical spindle roller mill, bowl mill hammer mill used on farm for grinding grain and chaff for animal feed. It is also used as tires to crush coal, vertical spindle roller.
This type of mill is found in utility plants and its uses tires to grind coal. Ball and tube mill consist of horizontal rotating cylinder and it is used for grinding ore, coal pulverizer mill is used in grinding coal. The type of pulverizer mill this project embarks on is the hammer mill pulverizer employed in grinding grains.
