INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE REPORT
The solar streets light which are powered by the photovoltaic panels generally maintained that on the lightening structure. The photovoltaic panels charge a rechargeable battery, which powers a fluorescent or LED lamp during the night LED solar street light have energy using sunlight, solar panels during the day to charge batteries, batteries provided light in the evening, without complex and expensive pipeline, adjustable lighting layout, safety and energy-saving and pollution free, without manual operation is stable and reliable saving electricity maintenance free.
LED solar street light to work continuosly for more than 3-5 days in rainy weather, solar street lighting system is consists of LED lamp, solar lamps controller, batteries (include battery incubator) and lighting pole, as well as parts.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

They are preferable due to the problem of power failure in our country to serve us an alternative to power failure.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The main aim and objective of this project is to in fall a stand alone photovoltaic array system in conjunction with other equipment such as solar controller, battery or might sensor litrid and cables to generate electricity to power the illumination in a open without any dependence on the utility power supply, all lighting points, and sockets, so as to enable effective carrying out of practical works by students in the absence of general power electricity, without any moving part in other to reduce maintenance cost of electricity generation.
A successful realization of this project needs a solar charge controller, battery dons, light emitting diode and evaluation of its performance of the solar panel and proper study of the solar intensity with some specific period and locations in Kaduna polytechnic.
The obj4ectives are as follows:
To install a solar street light to provide an efficient and compact source with high light output.
To install a solar street light that will beautify the environment and surroundings of a house or street.
To install a solar street light that will reduce the risk of electric shock and fire outbreak.
To install a solar street light capable of illuminating the street at night using a battery sources.
LIMITATION
Cost is another limitation on solar energy, everything about setting up a solar system is very costly.
One of the limitations of this thesis is that, solar does not work at night or cloudy days.
We all know that to produce solar electricity, it implies constant light which is not realistic, besides that irradiance fluctuation in winter experience a fall or less intense.
1.5 METHODOLOGY
This is the step by step method taken to ensure that this project come into reality. Looking at the plan was the first step and foremost step.
A plan on this project takes a look at where they system will best suits in the telecommunication laboratory for the project plan to be install.
Design calculation was done to ensure that mistake was never condoned in the project. The number of solar pandas were obtained accurately from design calculation.
Installation of project was properly checked and implemented where efficiency of the equipment became the watch word.
Construction of the project come immediately after planning was accredited and endorsed by the project supervisor.
The installation of the project was almost the climax of the effectiveness of the project.
The system that was planned, designed, constructed and installed in a more efficient environment where its political would be enhanced with the agreement of the supervisor.
This support structure is to ensure that the panels are firmly fixed and securely mounted. The panel are bolted to the metallic structure and indinedat an angled in order to capture the direct radiation from sun.
The solar charge controller
The charge controller is used to limit the rate at which electric current batteries is added of drawn from electric batteries. It prevents it against over voltage and overcharging which can reduce batteries performance or lifespan and may also pose a safety risk. It may also prevent completely during deep discharging of a battery depending on the battery technology.
As the name implies βcharge controllerβ it controls the rate of which the batteries are been charged and it may also control circuitry integrated within a battery pack, a battery powered device. Itβs needed to prevent over charging of the batteries proper charging will prevent damage and increase life and performance of the battery.
The solar panel
Photovoltaic cells converts sunlight directly into electricity without creating any or water pollution. P.V. cells are made of at least two layers of semi-conductor materials.
The battery
The battery is used to store the electrical power in the form of chemical reaction without storage you would only have power when the sun was shining or the generator was running.
The light emitting diode
The D.C flash lamp is a low voltage lamp that converts the electrical energy form the battery into light energy. The lamp is street lighting which serves as the load that provides illumination to the street at night. Its efficiency is very high and it provides about 8000 hours of lighting forward voltage rating of most LED is from 1 volt to 3 volt and the forward current rating from 20ma to 100ma.
Day and Night Sensor
The day and night sensor switches outdoor lighting on and off automatically. It consists of a light sensitive element that registers the brilliance of the ambient light. A switch is activated when the day light reaches the pre-set level. A day and night sensor also prevent the wasted energy form the battery when the energy is not required or needed it prevent wastage electrical from battery when solar is not needed.
