INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Hybrid solar is a cross stand alone solar and grid connected solar. This involves a solar system that is connected to our house and grid also has a storage/backup system, such as batteries
This has many benefits for people who are on low feed-in tariffs where it is better for them to store the power produced from the solar system. It also benefits those who live in areas where the grid drops out often and those would like to have power of the grid goes out, possibly in hells areas.
Solar hybrid system are becoming more common as the feed-in tariffs drop in price and people seek to avoid power companies as much as possible. The introduction of hybrid solar system has created many interesting innovations. New inverter let customers take advantages of changes in the utility electricity rate throughout the day.
Solar panels produce the most electrical power at noon-not long before the price of electricity peaks. Your home can be programmed to consume power during off peak Β hour or from your solar panels.
Consequently, any excess electricity produced from your solar panels is stored temporarily in batteries and can be sold on the utility grid when you are credited the most for every kwh.
Hybrid solar is the smart solar tomorrow and holds a lot of promise. This concept will become increasingly important as we transition towards the smart grid in coming years.
1.2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Before the design and installation of the project, the following problems were encountered.
*Β The classes were not conducive for learning when there is power outage
*Β Student could not study at night when there is power outage
*Β When there is power outage student will not be able to charge their electrical devices such as laptops, phones, rechargeable lamp e.t.c.
1.3 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
This project is aimed at transforming the natural abundant resource of sun energy to electrical energy which is used in powering of the entire design for which it is built
* To install a hybrid solar system capable of powering the design loads
* To design a solar system that well operated uninterruptedly
* To install a system that well reduces the risk of equipment damage due to surge voltage
1.4 MOTIVATION
In effort to stimulate a good learning environment, we will need to designed a portable hybrid solar system that could reduce over depended on the power holding company (PHCN) using a very simple and environmental friendly component and material to generate electrical power and to utilize the generated electrical power domestically.
1.5 METHODOLOGY
Solar system diagram consist of solar panel, charge controller, battery, inverter, mains and output loads. This equipment is interconnected together to achieve a highly sufficient energy system.
