Branding of the wall clock was done using direct imaging (DI) printing process. The design was carried out using Corel draw, printed and pasted on the clock. Branding is a strategy that involves creating a differentiated image on material that was not there originally to make it attractive and at the same time adding value to it.

CHAPTER ONE
1.0 Introduction
Branding of the wall clock was done using direct imaging (DI) printing process. The design was carried out using Corel draw, printed and pasted on the clock. Branding is a strategy that involves creating a differentiated image on material that was not there originally to make it attractive and at the same time adding value to it.
The design of this particular project was created using Corel draw application in a computer system. The printing of the design that was created was printed using direct imaging (DI) printing process on a white card. The printed card was then pasted onto the clock using an adhesive.
1.1 Background of the Study
Direct-image printing is the reproduction of an illustration or text in color directly from soft copy to the hard copy. In 1953, the first high speed printer was developed by Remington rand for use on the Univac computer.
In 1938, Chester Carlson invented a dry printing process called electrophotography commonly called a Xerox, the foundation technology for laser printers to come.
The original laser printer called EARS was developed at the Xerox Palo Alto research centre beginning in 1969 and completed in November, 1971. Xerox engineer, Gary Stark weather adapted Xerox copier technology adding a laser beam to it to come up with the laser printer.
In 1992, Hewlett Packard released the popular LaserJet 4, the first 600 by 600 dots per inch resolution laser printer. In 1976, the inkjet printer was invented, but it took up to 1988 for the inkjet to become a home consumer item with Hewlett Packard’s release of the DeskJet printer.
DI printing is the process of sending a digital file directly to a digital offset press. Those processes eliminate the production that is associated with film based or other offline plate making. The researchers have not been opportune to train on DI machine because the department of Printing Technology does not have. Therefore, a project of this nature will give them the opportunity to learn firsthand the working of DI machines.
1.2 Aims and Objectives of the Study
The purpose of this study is to add value to wall clocks by means of branding. Therefore, the studying will enable us to know the strategy of designs and design concepts, where shapes, sizes, background, colour are put into consideration.
Another important purpose of this study is to make it known to people that one can print on the surface of any item. This creates the connection between printing & customization.
