INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF STUDY
The department of electrical and electronics engineering which consist of many classes and laboratories and need electricity to power their equipment, In which if equipment are not maintained properly might lead to damages and accidents in the department.
This might lead to inconvenient learning and teaching environment for both teachers and students therefore the aid of deploying a timely maintenance and repair to provide a means of protection to all electrical equipment and to safeguard the user of electricity from the shock.
It also pave for the protection of the buildings from the risk of fire outbreak that may occur from the electrical installation, repair and overhaul of the accessories which also provide the operational standard of the equipment.
In this project certain condition were met before replacement of the burnt cables, broken socket outlet, electric ceiling fans, star block and lighting bulbs are being replaced, such as using the right star block for each point of light, where 5A was used in lighting point , 10A in ceiling fan ,and 15A socket outlet.
In addition, right cables were also used such as for lighting point, 1.5mm was use also 1.5mm was use for the fan and 2.5mm for the sockets outlet while 60A circuit breaker was equally used.
A wiring system consists of the conductor, installation, mechanical protection and various associate accessories such as control panel. In order to carry out maintenance and repair a number of points must be put into consideration such as, neatness of the finish work, the durability of the installation, time required and the total cost.
And type of wiring were put into consideration such as conduit, surface, and trucking and which the research entails that surface system wiring normally cost less to maintain than the Conduit and trucking system, but conduit has advantages over the others but highly cost. But in this project conduit was used because of it advantages.
1.2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM.
Some of the electrical ceiling fans in electrical and electronic engineering department were not functioning, thus student experiences a lot of heat while receiving lectures and study which bring lack of concentration and discomfort in the classroom.
In addition to that student and lecturers find it cumbersome in powering or connecting appliances ,equipment gadget and so on, as a result of absent of supply in the socket outlet or open circuit ,thus this limit some of the lecturer to lecture where power point or projector must be used.
A significant drawback while lecturing evening student is the inefficient illumination due to faulty bulbs ,open circuit switch terminal or faulty switches , This however led to challenges during lecture .In view of problems, the need to maintain and to repair the electrical ceiling fan , socket outlet and lighting point in the department of electrical and electronic engineering is very paramount.
1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The aim of this project is to maintain and repair the electrical wiring and fitting in the classroom of electrical and electronic engineering department, and this was achieved through the following objectives
Troubleshooting the whole power system
Checking and fixing the circuit breaker
Checking the whole wires and changing the bad ones
Troubleshooting the socket outlet and fans, then repairing and changing the bad ones.
