Rehabilitation Of Technical Drawing Equipment

ABSTRACT

This is a report of the work carried out during the cause of my project. It is the summary of the various activities carried out with a brief description of the functions which are highlighted with emphasis on Agricultural Engineering procedures and techniques. Rehabilitation and construction of drawing board and stools was carried out successfully.

The drawing board consist of the 70x100cm particle board, glue and formica. While the stool consist of the 30x30cm ply wood and 1x1mm square pipe. The method used in this process include; metal cutting, drilling welding, grinding and painting. It also involved wood cutting, smoothing, dressing, lamination and assembly.

The jig was used to position the parts of the stool frame together before welding. The stools frames were painted black using black paint and thinner. Costing was also carried out and the total cost of the drawing board and stool is N 161,500.

This report ends with a brief conclusion that the technical drawing equipment can be widely used by students in the departmental studio for technical drawing work and other specialized field concern with design and recommend that the technical drawing equipment precisely the drawing table should not be carried about or taken out of the studio to avoid any form of damage.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0 INTRODUCTION

The idea of learning Technical Drawing is a very important aspect in the field of engineering. This is important because drawing is a single language all engineers understood. Engineering drawing is a graphic language that illustrates technically and contained all information of an idea of one to another. It has a significant contribution in the advancement of student in technical drawing.

The graphic language is use in means of communication between the various professionals like chemical engineers, agricultural engineers, architectural engineers and any other related fields that are involved in engineering profession. It gives a guide and information on how object is been transformed from one level to another. This idea usually include the production of machine parts, building constructions, designing of bridges, engines or any other things that has to be transformed into an object which must be first put down on a drawing paper.

This project involves the rehabilitation of the drawing studio and it includes the fabrication of engineering tables, stools and refurbishing of damaged tables and stools and also the cleaning of the drawing studio and the provision of drawing equipment.

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

A drawing studio is a room where graphics are being drawn. This project will help students to improve with a well standard of engineering drawing which is considered to be the total field of graphical problem solving in schools. This project emphasizes more on the principle of a standard drawing studio to standardize the graphic language so that it helps in eliminating its provincialism and dilate in schools.

1.2  STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

At the beginning of the project, the drawing studio was properly inspected and it was discovered that some tables and stools were badly damaged and will require replacement while some of the tables needs rehabilitation. Some materials on the tables such as formica and drawing board needs to be rehabilitated for the drawing studio to be in adequate condition and be able to perform efficiently.

1.3 AIMS OF THE PROJECT

This project is aimed in order to rehabilitate the drawing studio for effective functioning and efficient operation of the drawing studio.

1.4 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDIO

          The objectives of the project are as follows;

To clean, inspect and diagnose the major cause of the breakdown of the drawing studio.

To assist the department on its rectification efforts.

To give a guide on the maintenance and effective use of the drawing studio.

Resuscitation of the drawing studio to a very standard condition.

1.5 SIGNIFICATION OF THE STUDY

The failure or breakdown of the drawing studio is the inability of a part, component or the whole studio to carry out its specified function partially or completely. It is as a result of the inherent failure of the drawing studio or due to misuse. In most cases, misuse is the cause of the breakdown.

Misuse is a deliberate act by the user which reduces the reliability, maintainability and operation of the drawing studio. Hence, this project does not only help in revitalizing and rehabilitating the drawing studio but it will also help check and address the issue of mismanagement and misuse of the drawing studio in the department.

In conclusion, the breakdown and poor performance and working efficiency of the project, and also low number of functional and effective drawing studio in the department led to the carrying out and execution of the rehabilitation of the drawing studio as a project.

1.6 SCOPE OF THE STUDIO

The scope of this project includes the procurement and replacement of all defective equipments in the drawing studio. The project also includes the inspection, the evaluation and determination of all faulty parts, the construction and assembling of new parts, and finally to make the rehabilitated drawing studio be put to use efficiently and satisfactorily.
