Empirical Study On Quality Control In Garment Making

Abstract

Quality control has always been in existence for long but apparently done with garment. This research work attempted to provide a well finished quality garment. Most Nigeria believe that foreign garment are best produces and finished because of the quality control measured taking from the first step of production to the final step of production. A well finished garment (children’s wear) with accessories putting quality control into consideration will bring back the lost glory of Nigerian made products.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1     Background of the Study

Quality control is the process of inspecting goods as they are being produced to make sure that they are of high standard. Children’s wears as they are produced require the same checking. The fabric to be used for making children’s wears should be of comfortable and high quality to meet their growth and development.

In our modern world today it is very important to pay attention to children’s wears because it makes children look unique and more acceptable in the society. It also communicates their fashion sense, family status in social environment.

Fashion also influence our look, as children’s garments are now designed with miniature copies of adult designs unlike in the past, when children’s clothing were loose fitting. According to Rose (May 2015) said “children’s clothing has been unevenly studied”. Histories of children’s clothing in Britain and the united stated emerged from object-based museum catalogues and often paid insufficient attention to the historiography of childhood or historical methodology.

Studies of images of children emerged from the history of art and were sometimes more focused on concepts than on practices. It was later understood that quality clothes help a child’s in developing character and self confidence.

Children’s clothing should meet all requirements to suit the temperature without causing discomfort, clothes that can be easily washed and ironed, and can also be changed frequently. The fabric mostly used in producing children’s clothing is cotton which is the most versatile of all fabrics. Cotton is used for every size range fabrics made from cotton is durable, comfortable, absorbent and easy to laundry, non inflammability. Therefore is more suitable for making children’s wears.

In this study, the researcher intends to design and produce children’s wears with an improve quality in design and finishing.

The study also intends to observe garment quality control from the initial stage of production to the final finished garment. Garment when produced will be of good quality and functional, less expensive to meet up the standard. It will also reduce our over dependence on foreign designs.

1.2 Statement of the Problems

Garments produced locally as children’s wears mostly are of low quality terms of standard. The ones with good quality are too expensive for an average Nigerian and are imported. The researcher therefore tends to design and produce children’s wears observing quality in standard.

1.3 Objective of the Study

The objectives of the study are to:

  1. Identify problems associated with children’s garments.
  2. Identify quality measures to be considered in sewing children’s wears.
  3. Design and produce children’s wears of standard quality.
  4. Produce clothing accessories to go with the garments.

1.4 Significance of the Study

The study is therefore an effort for setting the human minds towards the discovery of quality in the area of garment making. The study also intends to established garment using basic block to develop the patterns. It is hoped that this project will also be useful to fashion designers to make them improved and established quality in garment making to enable their designs acceptable in the society

1.5 Research Questions

To answer the above stated problems of the study the researcher has set out the following questions

  1. What are the problems associated with children’s garments?
  2. What are the quality to be considered in sewing children’s wears.
  3. How will the production be of standard quality?
  4. What clothing accessories will goes with the garment?

1.6 Scope of the Study

The study is aimed at creating new designs with an established quality in the finishing aspect. This will be made possible by the use of high quality fabric and accessories using quality sewing to finish the garments. The researcher intend to produce six children’s wear with accessories to go with garment using African print fabric with plain fabric.
