CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Marriage is a formal or legal union between man and women to live together as husband and wife with some few peoples in attendance as witnesses. There are many or several marriage conducting marriage have the traditional or native marriage law or custom Christian and Islam ways of marriage.
Marriage could be monopoly that is one man one women, the society encourage marriage and knowledge the institution as ordained by god. The history of marriage is as old as mankind. in the holy Quran after god created the earth, the first man was Adam he notice that out of all the creatures he made there wasnโt any to keep him (Adam) accompany and they two become one and they did had children.
One foundation fact underline the conception of marriage itself, some kind of commitment must be involved without such commitment a marriage may hardly be said to exist at all. There are prevalent ethical standard and the precept and tradition (Summer, 1990).
The importance of a husband to his wife or a wife to the husband cannot be over emphasized in a marriage and the upbringing of their children. the importance of children subside when homes are broken child rearing is one of the major issue in husband and wife relationship and any failure to seeing be to show parent the need to be strong together to face their collective responsibility.
Irrational behaviors are in offspring of broken homes. they are they are left at the mercy of step father and mothers that concernย step children it is at the teenage stage that these children are likely to become delinquent to have trouble at school to have their first burst with.
They acquire information from pear groups which are mostly wrong or half baked stories with nobody at home to correct what is necessary they are exposed to danger of drug abuse, premarital sex, prostitution, teenage pregnancy, stealing, and drug addiction and become nuisance to the society. Children from broken homes are found so many social vices.
Divorce has been become a serious problems in our society. With time after which there will be an effect on their children. In- spite of all the sermons that are been preached in our mosque and churches it still prove that abortive and still on the run or increased.
Mean while emotionally educationally psychologically socially effect of divorce or broken homes cannot be quantified. There also health hazard attached to this some of these children are force into a child lab our, child abuse they are exposed to abuse physically and sexually transmitted disease (STD), teenage pregnancy vesico vaginal fistula (V.V.F) and drug addiction. This study therefore intends to make couples see the reasons of divorce on children, thereby reducing the rate of divorce. The importance of keeping marriage for better worse cannot be over emphasized.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEMS
in spite of serious Abubakar and preaching in our mosque and churches intensive planning and counseling ย before marriage, it has been observed that divorced is becoming a thorn in the flesh of many marriage in modern society in the whole and our community in particular (Daklet, 1976).
Divorce is said to be rampant that out of every three marriage one is likely to end in divorced (Dakley, 1976)
What are the major causes of divorce
how rampant is divorced in our society
what are possible suggestion/ solution to the issue of divorced
what are the cause of divorce on the couples, children and society at large
it is therefore a concern and become important that the study of the nature be conducted in order to identify basically the principle factors causing divorce with a clear view to suggesting possible solution to the issue
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

To identify the effects of divorce
To determine the attitudes of children toward divorce
To identify the consciences of divorce
To profer necessary solutions to divorce
1.4 SIGNIFICANT OF THE STUDY
The importance of this study is to the researcher, the couples, the society and the socialization and personality development cannot be over emphasized the researcher while undertaking academic exercise to earn a certificate also exposed to the knowledge about marriage and divorce traditional and religion belief of people concerning the subject.
Marriage couple that may come across such a work educating and may equip themselves in avoiding some available habit that may trigger divorce.
The study also observed as a background to other researcher who may be interested in this topic. in this ways social work profession and the body of its knowledge is increased by a certain degree.
