This research is centered on Democracy as a tool for peaceful Co-existence in Nigeria with special focus on Jama’a local government Area of Kaduna state. The study comprises of five chapters, chapter one consist of introduction, background of the study, purpose, problem, scope, significance and the definition of key terms that are relevant to the study, purpose, problem, scope, significance and the definition of key terms that relevant to the study. Reviews of literature are carried in chapter two. Survey research design is adopted for the study because it will enable the researcher to describe the variable under investigation clearly.
The instruction used for data collection is questionnaire. Democracy gives citizens the opportunity to participate in government, which in turn promotes development. This paper examined democracy and the future of Nigeria state particularly Jema’a Local Government Area.
It observed that past Government failed in their non-adherence to democracy values and application of the principle of true fiscal federalism. It therefore recommended that for the future of Nigerian state to be guaranteed, government at all levels should imbibe a political democratic culture which promotes value and above all, shunning of all anti-democratic voices in dealing with issues of the and the application of the principle of true fiscal federalism. Without religious adherence to those ideas, then future will be bleak for Nigerian as a nation.       Â

 INTRODUCTION
1.1Â Background of the Study
In present world democracy is considered as vital tool for promoting both rapid development in which all people of the state are involved in making decisions about the state affair and this can be done through electing their representatives into the act of governance i.e by electing their representative to a parliament or similar assembly in a given nation.
Democracy has been considered valuable among many countries in the world, due to it paramount importance of giving equal participation to the citizens of a given state and issuance of rights to the citizens of any nation where it operates. United State of America imposed democracy to almost every corner of the world so as the world can be fully democratized (Arowolo and Lawal, 2010)..
Nigeria as a giant of African prefaces democracy since during colonial era and up to the present contemporary Nigeria. Thus Nigeria is a democratic state and it adopted some system of governance since independence, like unitary form of government in 1966, cabinet system of government 1960, and also presidential system of government which is in existence up till now.
Democracy in Nigeria unite and integrate different regions of the country into one single entity, the regions like the South, North, West and East are now living in peaceful coexistence and harmony (Oke, 2005). The scope of this research study is to examine democracy as a tool for peaceful co-existence in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State 2011-2016.
This research study will limit it study to Jema’a Government Area in order to give detail information of the subject matter within period of 2011-2016. Also the study will provide detailed information on the effects of democracy as a tool of peaceful co-existence in Jema’a Local Government Area.
1.2Â Statement of the Problem
Democracy is faced with myriads of problems ranging from corruption, mismanagement of public funds to poor leadership, Nepotism, Favoritism, Religion, Political and Cultural Sentiment. This has deterred peaceful coexistence in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Local Government has suffered a lot of ethno-religion and political violence due to poor leadership. The employment of violence in the struggle for power has some negative implications for the realization of the collective wellbeing and peaceful coexistence of individuals and society as a whole.
In Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, political violence has become highly disruptive to social life, thereby causing division in communities as well as causing antagonisms among and within social groups. Jema’a Local Government Area have witnessed several cases of democracy in the form of assassination, intimidations, murder and destruction of properties in time past and now on the increase.
This research will examine the role of democracy as an instrument of peaceful co-existence in Jema’a Local Government Area.
1.3 Purpose of the Study
To seek the major roles of democracy in bringing peaceful co-existence.
To find the roles of citizens for embracing democracy.
To examine how democratic values strengthened peaceful co-existence in Nigeria.
1.4 Significance of the Study
This research through is relevant and also significance due to some obvious reasons. These reasons may include the following: it will give us a clear picture of analysis to students and even scholars within the realms & of democracy as a tool for peaceful/co-existence in Nigeria.
And also will make the elites and also policy makers to have an insight about Nigerian democracy of complete understanding about how democracy brought peaceful/co-existence in Nigeria.
