In case you applied for admission into any Nigerian University, Polytechnic or college of education. You must have been aware of the new JAMB cut off marks for 2017 admission. But in brief, JAMB and all stakeholder concluded on setting the JAMB cut off marks for 2017 admission into Nigerian universities to be 120, colleges of education to be 110 and polytechnics to be 100. The decision which has received a mixed reaction ever since its released.

Opinions of People Over The New JAMB Cut off Marks

While many continue to celebrate the decision, because they felt it
would enable applicants who scored less than 180 to participate in Post UTME
thereby gain admission, many others believe setting UTME cut off to as low as 120 for Nigerian Universities is ridiculous and will reduce the standard of education of Nigeria.

Whenever your opinion is on this, I will list out the reasons why the new JAMB cut off marks will make admission into Universities to be more competitive and difficult this year. Most especially for those who scored high makrs in UTME.

If you remember, more than 1.7million sat for the 2017 UTME. How many candidates do you think would score less than 120? I doubt they will be much.

Just few….

This means many applicants can now apply for Post UTME in their various Universities and gain admission.

Most schools do consider students for admission based on their post UTME, therefore, if they do well in the Post UTME, then they could be offered admission, while those who scored above 200 with less post UTME scores could be left behind.

Do you now see why 2017 admission would be competitive?

Since the Federal government has lifted the ban on the conduct of POST UTME, your performance in post UTME would be basis for admission.

So you have to prepare.

If many Universities accept to use 120 as post UTME cut off marks, them almost all the candidates who wrote JAMB will also participate in the post UTME of various schools making admission to be more competitive and difficult for those who did well in UTME initially.

What To Do

Yes, you scored 180, 200, or 240 in UTME but it is unfortunate that, that does not guarantee your admission. You just have to prove it beyond reasonable doubt that you deserved the admission among thousands of others.

This can only be done through Post UTME. Performing well in your school’s exam will not only shows that you are a brilliant students, but also attest to your high JAMB score.

Don’t relent because your UTME score is 240 or more. Prepare and get ready for the exam to qualify you for admission.

Get the necessary materials and post utme past questions that could aid your performance in the forthcoming exam. Then be prayerful, so that you could be lucky enough to be offered admission into your university of choice and course.
