Every day, thousands of Nigerians queue up in vehicle registration offices to have their registered. With the rapid increase in the number of motorcycles on the roads, the need to reduce the paper work involved in the manual registration cannot be over-emphasized. Hence, this project is aimed at reducing the inefficiency in the manual registration of motorcycle and provides an Automated System in Jigawa State. With the aid of computer system, the data will be properly manage, organized and constructed of a suitable program that will help in management of the board. This system will be implemented using Java object oriented programming language for the design and interface and Hypertext mark-up language for accessing the board website.
INTRODUCTION
The world today has experienced different forms and levels of revolutions with the advent of computer and the World Wide Web (www) also known as the “web” as a major landmark development ascribed to this present generation. This is the age where people in Business, Government, and Science have come to terms with the fact that information is an integral part of our daily living in all ramifications in its entirety.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
The use of manual registration and records keeping in the Motor/Motorcycle Licensing Authority Jigawa State makes control, prompt access and management of information difficult and hence slows the pace of decision making by the management. In the light of this setbacks, this project is aimed at developing a new and improved Automated System of registration and records keeping in the organization.
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
The objective of this study is basically to create an On-line Database Information System (ODIS) that will enable the Motor/Motorcycle Licensing Authority Jigawa State access, process and register motorcycles on-line in real-time.
LITERATURE REVIEW
The last two decades have witnessed an explosion in computing and communication capabilities. Dramatic technological advances continue to increase our ability to acquire, store, process and network data; hence making information available at prompt disposal.
Raghu (2000), states that, seeing that organizations are now becoming more sensitive to human resources problems and the need to have readily retrievable up-to-date information, Database Management Systems(DBMS) are processed to ease data organization and access, that serve as interface between the user and the physical copies of data. Although, a database Management system is by no means inevitable in an information system; it is becoming increasingly necessary in an information system requirement.
METHODOLOGY
This implies a set of standardized procedures, technical methods, educational techniques and documentations used to carry out the function of the project. To ensure that the registration of motorcycles are successful, and adequately updated, the administrator has to get some laid down procedures to follow. Two files are created for the administrator with detailed information about the registration activities.
METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION
Data collection methods are the means taken to gather facts that enables a researcher to discover why the existing system was introduced, how it operated, its weaknesses and strengths and all the needed facts for the development of the new system.
In the collection of data, the following method were used:
- Personal Interview
- Record Review
iii. Observation
INPUT SPECIFICATION
Inputs are the data elements which are passed onto the computer system through input devices such as keyboard, mouse, scanner, touch screen and remote control for processing. The input requirement for the Automated Motorcycle Registration System.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENT
A system can be described as a group of inter-related elements that are integrated with the common purpose of achieving a particular objective by accepting input and producing output in an organized transformation process. The system requirement for this project work are subdivided into two; Software and Hardware.
SUMMARY
Computers are used in automation of both administrative and non-administrative activities thus making some tedious jobs less burdensome and enable users to appreciate the computer technology in the world. This project work “Automated Motorcycle Registration System” is a step in this direction
CONCLUSION
The aim of this project is to increase efficiency and productivity thereby eliminating the problems encountered in the use of the manual system of registration and records keeping. It is believed that the full-scale implementation of the “Automated Motorcycle Registration System” will go a long way to help the Kaduna State Motor/Motorcycle Licensing Authority and even more if required in the effective discharge of their duties.
This is because computers have been found to hold records in more compact and accessible way. As a result of this project, the registration of motorcycles will be easier and faster and information will be generated to the management quicker for effective and efficient decision-making. This project work has offered me the opportunity of tackling real-life problems in the field of records/information management.
