CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

Job satisfaction is an important factor that directly or indirectly has influence on employee performance. Employees which are dissatisfied create many issues or problems for their employers instead of solving its issue or problems. Dissatisfied employees generates very dangerous problems or issue for the organization rather than using their energy for the accomplishment of its goals and objectives (Khatri, 2008).

If dissatisfied employees persisted in the organization may involve in counter-productive behaviors such as poor service, theft, sabotage of equipment and destructive rumors (Akhtar, Awan, Anwar, Saeed, Ali and Qurban, 2016).  According to Rahman (2012), when employees are dissatisfied, they show physical disturbances such as depression, lassitude, tension, sleeplessness and apprehension.

The basic purpose of the human resource and labor management is to enhance the confidence or to remunerate the employee’s attitude towards job in a well manner. From many decades it is important area of research and many researchers investigate the association among job satisfaction and its affecting aspects.

The significance of job satisfaction on a variety of organizational variables has been studied by various researchers in the past(Bartel, 2008). Particularly we know that dissatisfaction lead employees toward job turnover.

That’s why taking into account job satisfaction of employee and its affecting factors have significant value for any institution concern to stay alive and prosper (Bellemareand Bruce, 2006).

However, remuneration is seen as reward for employment in the form of pay, salary, or wage, including allowances, benefits (such as company car, medical plan, pension plan), bonuses, cash incentives, and monetary value of the noncash incentives.

According to Alamdar (2011). Remuneration such as bonuses, cash incentives, salary or wage, medical plan, pension plan among others leads to job satisfaction among employee. However, when there is no assurance of all the aforementioned may lead to dissatisfaction.

Furthermore, remuneration is negatively associated with turnover intention in most industry. Griffeth (2009) states that job satisfaction are significantly associated with turnover intention in an organization. Griffeth added that workers such as office professionals are leaving their organization basically as a result of better salary offered by other organization.

The term office professionals on the other hand is seen as someone who is trained on how to handle office equipment and take care of office activities such as receiving correspondents and handling files (Abdulkadir, 2012). Office professionals is someone who is often found in the office making sure all correspondents are dealt with at the appropriate time.

Due to many duties and important role played by office professionals in ensuring the success of the organization, there is need for them to be adequately remunerated to allow higher performance of which the result of inadequate remuneration may result to low performance.

Deficiencies in their work may have adverse effect on the financial stands of an organization as such the need for office professionals to be remunerated in order to be satisfied with his or her job is a crucial topic that must be vividly researched.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

With the expansion of private sector business and involvement of multinational organizations in corporate sector, every organization requires the skills of an office professional and most office professionals are being motivated in order to derive job satisfaction through adequate remuneration from the organization.

However, studies have shown that some organizations are not aware of the various ways to remunerate office professionals in order for them to derive job satisfaction.
